Biggest Lesson of 2024 (so far)
What have you learnt this year?
Good morning, my champ!
It's midweek again.
While you might be preparing for different things, I over here. I have ended the week.
So before I go I decided to give you guys a story
So I had a marketing internship at Jesaih that ended sometime in January. I started the internship in September and I have had the opportunity to look back on the lessons from those five months.
One of them was an eye-opening lesson and that lesson doubles as my BIG lesson in the last 5 months of the year.
I will tell you the lesson pretty soon, but first lemme give you a brief background story as to how the whole thing came to play.
So back in September, I got into a marketing internship role in a company abroad.
It was a clean get-in.
I saw an opportunity, reached out to the CEO & Founder, fixed an interview and got the job at the
Sweet right?
Well not really.
Cos firstly, I didn't apply for any active or official role.
I just came with a proposal, killed it, negotiated my working hours and viola.
Two days later, I was onboarded into the Slack channel.
And boy did I learn a lot in those 4 months!
But you know the biggest lesson I learnt thus so far?
It came at the end of the internship.

I remember having a meeting with the HR while we discussed my input thus far.
I was told the Company would have loved me to stay for some more months but they needed to cut cost.
And since I was the only intern without a specific role, I was the only one that was dispensable.
To me, I thought I was doing a lot by learning from every department that was in the agency.
To them, I was basically doing something that someone was already doing before
And it didn't matter if I did it better, what mattered was that I didn’t consistently stick to a role throughout my stay in the firm.
It was a hard lesson for me.
One that I welcomed with open heart.
Because now I know that next time, if (and that’s a big IF) I decide to do anything in a marketing agency again, I’ll have to make sure I have a specific role I occupy
Be sure to not deviate from it.
And no matter how exciting working across field looks, I’m never going out of my way for anyone.
Dahsit.
Dahsol.
Now — to you — Champ.
What big lesson have you learnt in this first 5 months of the year?
Shoot me a reply and lemme know.
Your boy.

PS….
That is by the way sha, hope you've had a productive week so far? The goals you set for yourself wouldn't be achieved by another hope you know?
That's why I like to take Wednesdays as review days, pick a time of the day you feel most relaxed and review your actions and decisions this week.
It might feel a little pressuring but that's why you have me here, to gist and to guide. I'm sure you can do this too!
Between did you hear about the new documentary about our Queen of Saturday morning cleanings?
Guess who I am referring to and stand a chance to be rewarded with “OMO” for your next cleaning this weekend 😅😅
